Happy Birthday to You
The 4Oth anniversary events up at Whitewater this past week left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. Though I couldn't take part in all that was going on (if I did, there would have been no time left to ski..), I did get a sampling. It was typical Whitewater vibe. The skiing--as has been the case for much of our season--was exceptional, so it was another one of those happy days. Snow carving, la tire from the folks at the local French Association, a bonfire and marshmallow roast were just the beginning. Much more went on that day and into the night.
It's important to mark occasions like this with a party. Acknowledging what a central part Whitewater is to so many of us in Nelson and for visitors who keep coming back. To take a pause and give thanks for what we have and why we live here.
For me, anyway, a big part of what makes this enviroment special is Whitewater. The people, the snow, the terrain, the attitude of the staff, the slightly rickety chairlifts--all come together to make the hill a great place to be. Thanks to you Whitewater. And Happy Birthday.
