A Lifties Perspective
Whitewater Ski Resort. It has a certain something that we all feel but can?? put our finger on. It finds a special place in all of us.
Being a liftie at Whitewater is something that I came into from Australia with no idea of what was to come. To be up at the hill from dawn through to dusk almost every day in the winter, becoming part of the community that makes this mountain great. Last season was a great introduction to Whitewater ?? regardless of what conditions were it was the time of my life.
This winter I plan on sharing some of the moments that I get to experience up at the mountain. Arriving at lift stations first thing in the morning, working and meeting some amazingly diverse and inspired people, skiing and sharing smiles with them all. Skiing is about fun, and the more time I spend up at Whitewater the more I realise that this community is what winter is all about. So ?? here is how I saw December 2015 at Whitewater Ski Resort ?? reuniting with familiar faces and shredding all that beautiful Kootenay Coldsmoke that fell out of the sky. Look forward to seeing you up at the hill!
Dom Harrison, a transplant liftie/rental tech from NZ enjoying the goods somewhere deep in Trash Chutes.
Graham from Rentals finding the paradise he came searching from the Eastern Canada for.
3:45pm. Patrol Sweep! The lifts are off, the crowds are gone and all that you can here is the echo of distant patrollers sweeping the mountain. One of the most peaceful times on the hill.
The true Nelson local, Franco knows that when it?? puking like this at the base there is some goods to be found out there!
The view from the top of glory makes it one of my favourite lifts to work. Here some late afternoon light graces the chair just after the lift is stopped for the night.
Jason, full of stoke while it is class 'A' puking up at the top of Summit. This is what we came for!
Free-ride Coach, Levi Smith, given'er on this day off! Not a bad job to work off the clock too I guess...
8:20 am, Top of Summit. 40 minutes before first chair, it's a beautiful, quiet place.
Last Chair, 3:30 pm. The end of the day, and the start of a new one.
