Feed Your Need
Before you can dream of becoming a hard-core ski hero, you’ve got to start from the beginning. And not just training and practicing. Nope, we’re talking the most fundamental of needs.
Food and drink.
This basic physiological need is crucial to upping your ski skills, especially with Whitewater’s legendary powder stashes. Ripping through freshies is tough work, so ensuring you’re getting a nutritious meal is the key to success. Plus, it can taste so friggin’ good.
Sure, you can get the bare necessities at home, but savouring the pow chow at Whitewater is part of the resort’s appeal. Embracing local producers and serving up hearty and healthy fare is a way of life at Whitewater.
If you need your morning caffeine hit, drop by Freshies Coffee Bar inside Glory Lodge for a freshly brewed cuppa joe from Nelson’s own Oso Negro roastery. Don’t miss trying the locally brewed Kutenai Chai either. Yum.
Fresh Tracks Café is where Whitewater’s foodie reputation really shines. You won’t find soggy fries and mushy burgers here. Instead, think curry bowls, wraps, soups and salads. Looking for ski food staples? Fresh Tracks has that too – gourmet burgers, hearty chili, and delicious breakfasts are also available. Even the hot dogs are a worthy choice.
Nestled at the base of Glory Ridge chair is the newly expanded Glory Lodge. Replacing the popular Fresh Tracks Café Express food truck, the lodge welcomes hungry guests with an indoor area complete with a roaring fireplace and freshly cooked meals. As if the choices weren’t already good enough at the main lodge, Glory Lodge will be serving up all sorts of exclusive creations.
Odds are after a day of epic skiing and riding, you’ll have a thirst as deep as the snow. Coal Oil Johnny’s has you covered, serving up a variety of craft beers from the legendary Nelson Brewing Company, including local favourites Face Plant Winter Ale and Bent Pole IPA. Fun fact; not only are all of NBC’s beers organic, but the two aforementioned beers were originally brewed for Whitewater. Pair one with some tasty eats and enjoy the cozy and lively atmosphere in the pub.
And if you still can’t get enough of the food and drink at Whitewater, you can bring it home with you. And I don’t mean take-out (although that’s fair game too). There are four different Whitewater Cooks recipe books to choose from, authored by Nelson’s own Shelley Adams. Stop by NBC’s recently opened taproom back in Nelson to fill a growler or for a taste of the taps. Apres-ski has never tasted so good!
