Kicking off 40 Years with a Big White Bang

We are more than excited to load our first public tommorrow morning at 9am (that is right, we have changed our lift hours, click HERE for more info). With the second largest snowpack in North America at 149 cm, 36 cm in the past 24 hours and more snow on the way, thus weekend is set to be top notch! A little sneak peak at what our sneak peak will be like... Dec 4 powder skiing This is our General Manager Kirk Jensen testing the conditions this morning. Photo credit to Lisa Voigt. Our Snow Safety Team also wanted to send a little note: The mountain is looking fantastic with 150cms at the top of the summit this morning. 30cms in the last 24 hours has loaded our start zones with a fresh storm slab that is sitting on a thick crust down 30-40cms. We have started into a series of weather systems that are bringing moderate to heavy amounts of snow over the weekend with increasing South Westerly winds at ridge top. The increase in snowfall, winds and mild temperatures will continue to rapidly load start zones increasing the avalanche hazard. It is a great weekend to stay out of avalanche terrain and ride the lifts. Please check out Avalanche Canada's website for more information. http://www.avalanche.ca/forecasts/kootenay-boundary Whitewater's avalanche areas of Joker Line and Catch Basin will remain closed this weekend, control has not been completed in those areas. Please respect these closures. Our Snow Safety Team is working hard to get the whole mountain open for your riding enjoyment. We look forward to seeing all your smiling faces filled with powder tomorrow morning. I have a feeling 2015/2016 is going to be a great year to turn 40. Oh, and for those of you wanting to save the drive and get front door first chair service remember there is a daily shuttle!
