Obvious Signs of Pow

Up at Whitewater, big snow days are obvious. Loads of people having a blast, snow falling from the sky and lots of snow on the ground. Often though, it?? a bit of a guessing game, sitting in Nelson and elsewhere, trying to imagine what the conditions are up at the hill. We read the Whitewater Snow report, check out the weather section of the Avalanche Canada site, obsessively watch the Whitewater webcams and maybe have a peek at the Environment Canada weather. All of us have our secret matrix of weather products that we swear by. Time-and-time again, though, the old adage ??ya don?? know ??til ya go??rings true.

Then there are times when we see our faithful weather forecasts say ??winter storm warnings in effect??for extended periods of time. Times when we flip on the news and half of it is about the snowy weather and what a mess it has made of the province. ??not to revel in others misfortunes or anything, but for many of us, this kind of extreme ??bad??weather news is extremely good.

Another key indicator is in town (that?? Nelson, for those of you from away). If it?? dumping here, dollars-to-donuts it?? really dumping up at the hill. Images like buried cars and such might signal a big digging job for their owners. For those of us who love to shred, it means it?? time to make arrangements and be creative with our day jobs so we can experience yet another day of glorious Whitewater pow. Amen.
